Under The Vaulted Sky has been created by award-winning choreographer Rosemary Lee for Milton Keynes’ little-known Cathedral of Trees in Newlands, with live music by composer Terry Mann and designs by Louise Belson.
Rosemary has assembled a cast of over 100 dancers and musicians from across the region who will lead the audience on a journey around the Cathedral in a performance that draws on history, nature and stories inspired by the still beauty of this truly unique and magical location.
As audiences weave around this cathedral made of trees, they will encounter a combination of fleeting dances, delicate installations and a wonderfully vibrant soundscape of bells, trombones and percussion.
Created by landscape architect Neil Higson and planted over 30 years ago, the Cathedral of Trees is modelled on the architectural footprint of Norwich Cathedral, with different species of trees and plants to represent the character and different elements of the building.
Under The Vaulted Sky is a new commission for IF: 2014 and completes a triptych of Rosemary’s participatory performances which started with Common Dance (2009) and Square Dances (2011) in London.
“Evanescent. The result was complete, unselfconscious magic. Beautifully realised and transporting.” Donald Hutera of The Times on Rosemary’s work.
Under The Vaulted Sky will be the culmination of Rosemary's year-long residency with the Festival in Milton Keynes.
Please note that this is a promenade performance in an outdoor woodland-like location. The event is not seated - tickets are for standing/moving places.
