Classical maestros Ensemble 360 make their own contribution to the Olympic celebrations with a programme that demonstrates that classical music can be just as powerful an inspiration to sport and exercise as any other musical style.
The concert features a rare chance to hear André Caplet’s effervescent Quintet, pieces featured at the 1936 and 1984 Olympic Games, music by composers with surprising sporting connections and a new work by US-born composer Stephen Montague.
The Concert
Schein: Pavane No.16 arr. for wind quintet
Glass: The Olympian: Lighting of the Torch
Caplet: Quintet Janàček: Music for Indian Club Swinging
Montague: Bolt from the Blue
Ravel: Pavane pour une Infante Défunte (arr. Walter)
Bizet: Chanson Bohémienne (Fantasy on Carmen) (arr. Walter)
Part of the Music in the Round concert series supported by the Foyle Foundation & Arts Council England
