Presented by The Stables in The Speigeltent
Havana's outstanding Sierra Maestra, headed up by Juan d'Marcos Gonzales, bring the sounds of authentic Cuban 'son' (literally meaning 'sound' in Spanish) music to Milton Keynes.
If you enjoy the sounds of Buena Vista Social Club you’ll love Sierra Maestra. Formed in the 1970s, this 9-piece band is one of the finest and most popular ensembles to come out of Cuba, scooping up awards, touring globally and setting festivals alight with their pioneering re-workings of music from the great days of the 1920s and '30s.
Cuban son music blends Spanish guitar sounds with African rhythms and stinging brass to create a feisty, unmistakable musical mix that’s great for dancing and romancing, so make sure you dig out your salsa shoes!
“If you could bottle the atmosphere of sheer pleasure generated between Cuba's Sierra Maestra and their audience you'd be a billionaire pretty quickly.” The Scotsman
